Financial Summary

The information displayed here relates to the combined results of Scottish Golf Union Ltd, Scottish Golf Environment Group Ltd, and Clubgolf (Scotland) Ltd.

Income


Income was derived from various sources:-

  • Subscriptions – per capita charge from Affiliated Clubs and Societies.
  • Sportscotland – funding towards various activities – mainly Clubgolf and performance related.
  • Other Government – funding received from other government bodies
  • Sponsorship – sponsorship contributions from companies to assist in running of events and projects.
  • R&A – funding from the R&A.
  • Commercial – income from commercial activities e.g. Scottish Golf Dinner.
  • Entry Fees – fees for entry to national competitions at all age levels.
  • Academy Fees – contributions from golfers towards costs of coaching.
  • Interest/Commissions – monies received from various financial establishments.
  • Other – other grants or donations received

Expenditure


Expenditure for the year was split into the following categories:-

  • Performance – funding coaching, the Academy Programme for juniors, Scottish Teams and Elite players – funded substantially by sportscotland.
  • Events- staging national and international events for golfers at all levels and ages.
  • Club Services – Supporting member clubs with advice on handicapping, course rating, interpretation of the rules, and course and club management.  Consultancy services on best Environmental practices via SGEG.
  • Clubgolf – funding the Scottish Junior Golf Programme – funded substantially by sportscotland
  • Development – funding initiatives to promote the growth of the game at all levels throughout Scotland including SGU website and SGU Golf Central, running seminars for club officials, advice on Child Protection Issues, Golf Awareness Week initiative to promote golf club membership and development of Central Database of Handicaps.
  • Administration – the central costs of the organisation, including premises, finance, IT support.
  • Marketing – promoting activities of all organisations.
  • Affiliations/Tax/Other costs – subscriptions and support to other golfing organisations, national taxes and other costs.

Subscriptions

Clubs affiliated to the Scottish Golf Union pay a subscription to the Scottish Golf Union.  This subscription is based on a per capita charge against the number of adult male members of all categories the club has.  The per capita rate is set annually and has been:

  • 2008 - £6.70 per member
  • 2009 - £7.00 per member
  • 2010 - £8.00 per member

It has been decided that for 2011 the charge will be £9.00 per member but clubs can exclude from the calculation members who have no golf-playing rights. For 2012 the charge will be £10.00
