Chairman | Tom Craig CA is Chairman of Craig Corporate, a well respected, Glasgow based corporate finance, business management and tax advisory firm which he founded in 1985 and has a wealth of experience in advising owner-managed companies on management and finance. He is also Chairman of @sipp plc, a SIPP trustee and administration company, and Houston Bottling & Co-Pack, a provider of bottling and packing services to the whisky industry. An 11 handicap golfer, he is a Past Captain and Finance Convener of Erskine Golf Club and a member of Western Gailes Golf Club where he has served on committee. He also sits on the board of ACCORD Hospice in Paisley. Appointed Scottish Golf Union Interim Chairman in January 2012. |
Business & Marketing | Michael Clark OBE is a much respected businessman in the North East, having been Managing Director then Chairman of International Fish Canners since 1992, overseeing 400 employees and an annual turnover of £36m. He is also Vice Chairman of the Grampian Food Group and a Director of Scottish Enterprise Grampian. For the past 15 years, he has been Commissioner of the Fraserburgh Harbour Board and also serves on the SFIA Pelagic Advisory Board. A 3-handicap golfer, Clark is a past captain of Royal Aberdeen and is also a member of The Nairn, Cruden Bay and Isle of Harris Golf Clubs. Clark took over from Douglas Corner as Non-Executive Director of Marketing and Business activity for the Scottish Golf Union in January 2010. |
Championship | George Macgregor OBE is one of the country’s most successful amateur golfers and a popular face on the Scottish golf scene. His Scotland international career spanned 18 years having earned his first cap in 1969 and the Glencorse member went on to represent GB&I in the Walker Cup no fewer than five times. Macgregor, who was Company Secretary of Dalmore Mills near Penicuik until 2004, also captained the GB&I Walker Cup side in 1991 and 1993 and played in and captained the GB&I Eisenhower Trophy team. He won the Scottish Stroke Play Championship in 1982, the same year he reached the final of the Scottish Amateur Championship. With eight years of R&A administration knowledge under his belt on the Championship and Amateur Status committees, Macgregor brings a wealth of experience to the SGU Board. |
Development | Bill Miller spent most of his working life with HJ Heinz Beans as a Territory Sales Manager. On taking early retirement he assisted his late wife in the running of her two retail businesses. He has been Captain of Monifieth Golf Club, Chairman of Monifieth Links Committee and President of Angus County Golf Association. He has also served as a member of the Scottish Golf Union Council. Bill is still a very keen golfer at Monifieth Golf Club where he is Junior Convenor and has a wealth of experience in junior golf. His other love is the Boys Brigade of which he has been a member for nearly 60 years. In that time he was President of the Dundee and Angus Battalion for six years. Until recent retirement he also played in the Boys Brigade pipe band. |
Finance | David Calder CA qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 and has been a Partner of Penta Capital, a Glasgow based private equity investment manager, since its formation in 1999. He is also a non executive director of a wide range of portfolio companies providing financial & strategic guidance and enhanced corporate governance. David joined the SGU board in January 2013, having previously been a member of the Finance Committee. He is a member of Bothwell Castle GC and Western Gailes GC, with a current handicap of 5. |
Handicapping & Course Rating | Colin Wood joined the Board in January 2009, having previously served as President of the SGU between 1999 and 2001. An honorary member and past captain of Peebles Golf Club, Colin brings a wealth of on and off course knowledge to the role. He is currently Chairman of the Scottish Golf Environment Group and is also actively involved in the Greenkeepers Training Committee and the STRI. Colin is also a past non-playing captain of the Scotland team, where he led the Scots to runners-up position in the European Team Championship in Italy in 1997 with a team including Alastair Forsyth and Barclay Howard. Colin has also served on the European Golf Association, CONGU and R&A Amateur Status Committees and is a Trustee of Golf Environment Europe. |
Performance | Stephen Docherty joined the board in January 2012 having been a member of the SGU performance committee. Stephen is a fund Manager and Head of Global Equities for Aberdeen Asset Management where he has worked for the past 18 years and is responsible for the management of billions of pounds of clients assets invested in his teams strategies. He is currently a member of Archerfield, Cruden Bay, Haggs Castle, Royal Aberdeen and Royal Dornoch Golf Clubs and has been capped at Boys and Youths level for Scotland, as well as being a member of the Great Britain and Ireland Boys team in 1987. Stephen currently has a handicap of 4. |
President | Iain Harvey is a member of Kilmarnock (Barassie) and Ayr Belleisle Golf Clubs and a past President of the Ayrshire Golf Association. A former teacher, Iain has served on his Area’s executive committee for more than 20 years and is also a former secretary of the Ayrshire Junior League. He is currently the AGA’s representative on the SGU Council and a member of the SGU’s Golf Course and Handicapping & Course Rating Committees. |
Vice President | Ian Howarth is President of Stirlingshire Golf Union and a member of Falkirk, Crail, Pumpherston and Dalmeny Golf Clubs. He is a member of the SGU Finance Committee. Ian took early retirement as Legal Adviser from BP Grangemouth in October 2002. Within BP he delivered a 7-year major sponsorship with the SGU to assist Boys and Girls golf. At BP, Ian spearheaded the £2.5m redevelopment of Pumpherston Golf Club with assistance from sportscotland. Currently a Board Director of Central Scotland Forest Trust (CSFT), Forth Estuary Forum (FEF), member of the Forth Valley European Leader Committee and Chairman of Communities Along the Carron Association (CATCA). |

Chairman of SLGA | Beth Paterson, a member of The Eastwood Golf Club, was appointed Chairman of the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association at the Annual General Meeting in January 2013. Paterson, who has already served the SLGA as both Chairman of Training and Performance Director, took over from Shona Malcolm who had been in the post for the previous four years. Paterson was born and brought up on the Isle of Arran and has had a lifelong involvement with the game. She is also a member of The Ladies’ Golf Club Troon and Whiting Bay Golf Club.
