SGU/SLGA AmalgamationThe development of plans to amalgamate the Scottish Golf Union and Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association into a single governing body in Scotland are ongoing and this section of the wesbite aims to keep clubs and golfers up-to-date with information on its progress. News Updates on SGU/SLGA Amalgamation 23/01/12 - SGU Update on Amalgamation Bid 08/06/11 - SGU Board Delegation to Meet with Areas to Progress Amalgamation Discussions 26/05/11 - SGU Shareholders Vote 'No' to Amalgamtion 25/05/11 - SLGA Members Vote in Favour of Amalgamation SGU Shareholders Reject Amalgamation Proposals The Scottish Golf Union's 16 Shareholders, comprising of the Area Associations, voted 10 to 6 against the Final Amalgamation Proposal at a Special General Meeting on Thursday 26 May. The vote comes a day after the Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association's members voted 93% in favour of the changes at their Special General Meeting. May 2011 - SGU/SLGA Amalgamation Update Details of the Final Amalgamation Proposal were sent out to all affiliated clubs at the end of March, with clubs invited to indicate their support for or against the proposal, ahead of the official SGU Area Associations vote on Thursday 26 May. A total of 295 SGU affiliated clubs responded to the communication, with 89.2% of clubs responding supporting the proposal, while 10.8% voted against the proposal. A total of 240 SLGA affiliated clubs responded, with 95.4% voting for the propsal and 3.8% of clubs (2 clubs were undecided). Click here to view a breakdown of the SGU club vote by Area. March 2011 - SGU/SLGA Amalgamation Update The consultation process has been completed. Consultation involved the SLGA meeting with its voting members, Counties and Clubs, and the SGU meeting with its shareholders, the 16 Area Associations before a series of 10 seminars were held throughout Scotland with all Clubs, Areas and Counties invited. The Boards of the SLGA and SGU fully support the proposal for amalgamation as the best way forward for Scottish golf. We now look forward to completing the final steps to enact amalgamation in time for implementation from 1 October 2011. Related Documents
