SGU/SLGA AmalgamationThe development of plans to amalgamate the Scottish Golf Union and Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association into a single governing body in Scotland are ongoing and this section of the wesbite aims to keep clubs and golfers up-to-date with information on its progress. Following the failure to agree on the original amalgamation proposal the Areas and Board of the SGU engaged in extensive dialogue in an effort to agree the basis on which amalgamation might be achieved. This dialogue involved meetings between the Areas and the Board, an internal working group to consider amalgamation, discussion of the group's findings at the AGM and the President and Chairman travelling to meet with every Area Committee. These discussions have proven to be very helpful and it is clear that all parties remain committed to amalgamation. The outcomes from above process were then discussed with the SLGA. Both the SGU and SLGA Boards then agreed that formal discussions should recommence. A working group, comprising five representatives from each of the SGU and SLGA and independently chaired by Alastair Thornton, has been agreed - see press release below dated 12/12/12. Progress from the working group will be updated here with the minutes of each meeting (see Related Documents). Should anyone wish to make a constructive comment on the work of the Amalgamation Working Group please email r.hughes@scottishgolf.org in the first instance.
