Tour Star Jamieson Launches ClubGolf Camps
17/05/12European Tour star Scott Jamieson was joined by Scotland international footballers Scott Brown and Steven Whittaker at Haggs Castle GC in Glasgow to launch the country’s biggest ever junior golf activity, ClubGolf camps. ClubGolf, the national junior golf programme, is encouraging more youngsters than ever before to get involved with golf, in the build up to the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Castle Stuart in July. The ClubGolf Camps will take place at venues across the country from 2–6 July, the week before some the world’s best golfers descend on the Highlands to challenge for one of the European Tour’s most prestigious titles, won by Luke Donald last year. The camps will provide a fantastic opportunity for clubs and facilities delivering ClubGolf coaching to expand their programmes, reward their ClubGolfers and volunteer coaches, and receive brand new coaching materials. Jamieson, the former SGU Order of Merit No 1 now enjoying a successful second year among Europe’s elite, welcomed the new initiative: “ClubGolf is a great programme and it’s encouraging to see so many youngsters who might not otherwise have been interested in golf getting involved in the sport," he said. “Opening the game up is so important because clubs desperately need future generations to take up the game. We need more kids at clubs and that’s why I’m happy to support ClubGolf,” he added, while helping coach some of the youngsters involved in Haggs Castle’s ClubGolf programme. The ClubGolf Camps will be a week-long holiday programme (2-6 July) at 50 clubs and facilities running ClubGolf programmes, which will encourage more children aged between 9-13 years old to take up golf and develop their skills. Running over consecutive days ClubGolf Camps will provide children with up to 20 hours of coaching at just £25 for the week, helping them improve their skills and giving them the chance to experience what it's like to be part of a golf club. ClubGolf is targeting PGA Pro’s to lead on delivery at ClubGolf Camps, supported by volunteer coaches. For its inaugural year, ClubGolf aims to have 50 camps running at ClubGolf delivery centres across Scotland, engaging some 900 youngsters. “The ClubGolf Camps will be a fantastic opportunity for our clubs to build on their successful ClubGolf programmes,” said ClubGolf Manager, Jackie Davidson. “In particular getting more children playing golf, encouraging more active junior members and creating a large pool of well coached youngsters from which more talented players will emerge. “We are hugely encouraged to see that so many clubs and facilities in Scotland have embraced this new opportunity as another way of building on their successful junior programmes and we wish all involved in this first year of ClubGolf Camps success.” For parents interested in signing their child up to a ClubGolf Camp, please register now via the website at www.clubgolfscotland.com or call 0141 222 9639 to book a place.
