Boys Champ Forrest Edged Out in Play-Off

Craigielaw’s Grant Forrest narrowly missed out on victory in the prestigious Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters in Kent yesterday with an agonising play-off defeat to England’s Nathan Kimsey.

With both players tied on 6-under par after a four round aggregate of 282 alongside James Burnett at Nizels Golf Club in Sevenoaks, Kimsey clinched his win with a sensational 25-foot birdie putt on the first play-off after Forrest’s approach chip just failed to drop.

The 16-year-old, who beat Ian Redford in the Scottish Boys Championship in April, had earlier holed an excellent 10-foot putt on the final green for a round of 70 to reach the play off, having been a model of consistency over the final three rounds.

SGU Boys Order of Merit leader Simon Fairburn (Torwoodlee) also performed well to finish tied eleventh on 1-under par, while Scotland U16s captain Ewan Scott was in 32nd spot, with Ian Redford a further three placed adrift.
