Defending champion Alasdair McDougall from Elderslie led from the front for a four-shot victory in the Tennant Cup today.
The 2012 British boys championship semi-finalist was a wire-to-wire winner to ensure back-to-back victories in the SGU Men’s Order of Merit event over Gailes Links and Glasgow Killermont.
McDougall led overnight and stayed in pole position with third and fourth round efforts of 68 and 67 for an aggregate of six under par – six shots lower than his winnng total 12 months ago.
Jamie Savage (Cawder) moved into second place after a third-round 68, but was unable to close the gap with a repeat score in the final round.
McDougall posted an eagle two at the 17th in his third round and cruised to victory on the back of four birdies in his closing 18 holes. Kyle Godsman from Moray was third on level par, with Ed Wood (Crow Wood) a stroke further back.
Bryce Runner-up at Sir Henry Cooper
Bathgate’s Joseph Bryce finished runner-up to English teenager Marco Penge at the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters at Nizels Golf Club in Kent.
Goodwood’s Penge, the recent Carrick Neill Scottish Stroke Play champion at Moray, sealed success in the prestigious event for the second time to continue his fine season.
Boys’ internationalist Bryce had rounds of 66, 71, 73 and 71 for a total of seven under par, but was seven strokes behind the champion. Penge fired a superb winning aggregate of 14-under with rounds of 71, 70, 66 and 67.
