Wilson & Darling Crowned Xact Scottish Boys and Girls Champions

Broomieknowe Golf Club’s Hannah Darling, 14, and Castle Park Golf Club’s Connor Wilson, 17, have come out champions at the Xact Scottish Boys’ and Girls’ Amateur Championship at Moray Golf Club (2-6 July 2018).

Darling, who also won last year’s competition at Scotscraig, defended her title against West Kilbride Golf Club’s Louise Duncan in the final, winning 4&3.

Earlier in the day, Darling defeated Alvaneu Bad’s Cameron Neilson in the semi finals 3&2.

Hannah, a member of the Scottish Golf Performance Academy, notched her second major title of the season after winning the Girls Under 16 Open Championship at Fulford Golf Club in England back in April.

Hannah said: “I’ve been practicing so hard and deep down I just really wanted to defend my title so to walk away a winner again is unbelievable.”

“Whether I ended up sixteenth or first in the opening days didn’t matter to me, I just stuck to my game plan and kept going.”

Looking ahead to representing Scotland at next week’s European Team Championship, Hannah said “The whole team is looking strong, and I am just looking to be an asset to the team and really excited to represent Scotland.”

In the Boys Championship, Connor Wilson beat Royal Aberdeen Golf Club’s Liam Waldron 2&1, in a hard fought match.

This is Connor’s second win of the season, after he came out victorious in the Stephen Gallacher Foundation Trophy in June at Macdonald Cardrona.

Connor said: “It feels top class overall. I started out quite confident but after a disappointing first round, I just stuck at it.

“I hit a lot of low shots to keep it under the wind this week, I play a lot of golf at Dunbar so I am used to hitting a lot of knock down shots, taking a lot of club from short distances. I kept it in play, and I think that was what won it for me this week.

When asked about where this win will take him, Connor added: ‘Ideally, I want to stick to the amateur route and eventually become pro. It’s a dream of mine so hopefully I get there.”

14 year old Romy Erksine from Kilmacolm Golf Club won the Xact Scottish Girls Nett Championship Match Play title, after beating Nairn Dunbar’s Iona Reid 2&1.
