64 became 16 as the Scottish Boys’ Amateur Championship entered the match play stages on the Lansdowne Course at Blairgowrie.
In the morning’s last-64 ties, stroke play winner and Blairgowrie member Gregor Graham wasted no time in progressing with a 5&4 win over Pitreavie’s John Vogelpohl.
Elsewhere, Old Ranfurly’s Aidan O’Hagan safely made it through with a 3&1 win over Thomas Rankine Jnr of Haggs Castle, while Ruben Lindsay of Ayr Belleisle did likewise with a narrow 2up win.
The game of the day say Royal Montrose’s Ewan Wheat come out on top against Nairn’s Calum Scott in nail biting fashion on the 6thextra hole.
The biggest scalp of the morning came as 2ndseed Liam Waldron of Royal Aberdeen was defeated by 63rdseed Alex Turlik of Muckhart.
In the afternoon, there were again wins for Gregor Graham, Aidan O’Hagan, Cameron Gallacher and Ruben Lindsay, all of whom recently represented Scotland at the European Boys’ Team Championships.
Speaking to Scottish Golf after his last-32 win, Blairgowrie’s Gregor Graham said, “I’m very happy with my game and really looking forward to tomorrow. I’m sure it’s going to be a tough game in the morning whoever it is.
On playing a national championship on his home course, Graham said, “It’s been amazing being able to play on my home course. I’ve just been able to go out and have fun which has been fantastic.”
There was also an impressive 2&1 win for Ewan Wheat who ended the day having played a total of 41 holes on day 3 at the Scottish Boys Amateur Championship.
After producing the shock of the morning the morning, Alex Turlik was narrowly beaten 1up by Newmacher’s Liam Strath.
