A number of Scotland’s leading amateur players are in international action this week.
Grantown-on-Spey’s Hannah McCook, Chloe Goadby (St Regulus) and Craigielaw’s Gabrielle Macdonald are all contesting the Portuguese Ladies Amateur in Palmela from Wednesday until Saturday.
Meanwhile, thanks to the continued support of national team sponsor Aberdeen Asset Management, South African businessman Johann Rupert and the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation, coupled with funding from sportscotland, a male group are in South Africa for competition and training to mirror previous programmes.
Their schedule will include four major events on the South African circuit and a triangular match against the South African Golf Development Board and the South African Golf Association, as well as a training camp to allow players to work on short game, swing and fitness with support staff.
Six players start out on Thursday in the opening event, the Gauteng North Open at Irene CC (28 – 30 January), before the South African Stroke Play Championship (2 – 5 February) at Blue Valley.
The reigning Scottish Amateur champion from Glencruitten, Robert MacIntyre, is joined by Scott Gibson (Southerness), Calum Fyfe (Cawder), Sandy Scott (Nairn), Jamie Savage (Cawder) and Craig Ross (Kirkhill) in action at Irene.
