What is an Adult (Playing) Member?

An Adult Playing Member is anyone aged 18 or over on 1 January 2018 with rights to play over the club’s designated golf course(s) regardless of whether they chose to hold a handicap. The club’s affiliation fee is calculated by multiplying the number of Adult Playing Members with the Annual Per Capita charge £14.50.

What is an Adult (Non Playing) Member?

An Adult Non Playing Member is anyone aged 18 or over on 1 January 2018 who does not have rights to play over the club’s designated course(s). There is no charge for non playing members. These figures are required to obtain a clear set of membership statistics for essential reporting.

What is a Junior Member?

A junior member is anyone under 18 years of age on 1 January 2018. There is no charge for junior members. These figures are required to build a geographical picture on our junior membership and assess where we need to focus our resources to develop programmes and help us highlight where strong youth engagement is occurring.

What is the annual affiliation fee?

The increased per capita fee is £14.50 and will be frozen until the collection of subscriptions in January 2022. The Annual Affiliation Fee will cover the period 1 October 2018 to 30 September 2019. Your fee is used to provide face-to-face support to our clubs, staging a series of national championships for golfers of all ages and abilities, while maintaining the handicap system to enable golfers of differing abilities, men and women alike, to compete on a fair and equitable basis.

What is the plan for the increase?

We are committed to better supporting your club and the clubs across the country. With the additional revenue generated from the increase, we will, amongst other things, develop a fit-for-purpose national junior programme, explore income generation from non-membership golfers – known as nomadic golfers – and most significantly we will offer a non-compulsory free-of-charge digital service for clubs to support and improve membership services at all levels, including tee-booking, competition management, and handicapping.

How does my club apply for a payment plan?

If your club is having or anticipating cash flow challenges, we are happy to discuss how we can support your club through it. We can offer payment plans as well as specialised support from our Club Development Officers. Please contact finance@scottishgolf.org in the strictest confidence and one of our finance team will be in touch to discuss further.

What dates do I need to remember?

  • 11 November 2018 – Membership numbers submission due
  • 1 December 2018 – Annual Conference
  • 1-15 December 2018 – Confirmation of numbers
  • January 2019 – Invoices issued from Scottish Golf
  • 31 March 2019 – Payment due date (unless payment plan agreed
