Equality has been a major issue for many golf clubs in recent years due to changing legislation and Scottish Golf work hard to support clubs in providing the right advice in this area. The Equality Act 2010 brought many changes affecting membership of clubs, both in golf and other sports, and this section of Club Services helps clubs to keep up-to-date with changes and how they may impact on your business.

The provisions of the Act relating to gender, religion or belief, pregnancy, motherhood and sexual orientation became effective in October 2010.  From 1 October 2012, a private club cannot, without sufficient reason, discriminate against club members and guests because of age. The Government Equalities Office has produced a guide for private clubs and other associations which can be found below.

The latest Advice Notice (8th Edition – September 2012) is also available to download, while a specimen equality policy specially designed for clubs has been created to help your business comply with the latest equality legislation.
