In 2019, Gleneagles will celebrate its golfing centenary. Since the iconic King’s and Queen’s courses were first opened in 1919, this countryside estate in the heart of Scotland has continued to attract the elite of the golf world.
With world-class, championship courses, Gleneagles is truly the home of golf in Scotland. Over the years, Gleneagles has hosted a number of significant golf tournaments – the most notable being the 2014 Ryder Cup, played on the PGA Centenary Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus.
In 2019 The Solheim Cup will return to where it all began, Scotland, The Home of Golf. The PGA Centenary Course, host of the 2014 Ryder Cup will once again see Europe vs USA battle it out in one of the highlights of the golfing calendar.
The Solheim Cup is a biennial tournament contested by teams of 12 players representing Europe and the United States. The inaugural Solheim Cup was staged in 1990 and the golf club manufacturer Karsten Solheim was instrumental in its introduction and why it is called The Solheim Cup.
