McCook at the Double after Superb Win in Ireland

Overnight leader Hannah McCook (Scotland) was today crowned Irish Women’s Open Stroke Play Champion having won the Welsh event just seven days ago.

“This is very weird! I’m not quite sure what’s happening!” she said while holding on to the Clarrie Reddan and Philomena Garvey Trophy. “To have won one was amazing but to now have two, wow.”

In the final group, alongside Romy Meekers (Netherlands) and Ebonie Lewis (England), McCook held the narrow advantage from the start but birdies on the 1st and 6th extended that cushion.

Making the turn with a 2 shot lead over Meekers, McCook’s saw her tee shot on the par 5 11th find one of Co. Louth’s newly redesigned pot bunkers, the resulting bogey narrowed her lead to one but the Scotswoman’s confidence is sky high and she kept her cool.

“I felt a lot more comfortable out there today, it was a different way to win having done it in a play off last week. So once I got off to a fast start and Romy struggled a small bit I just kept trying to make pars and not do anything too silly.”

“I’ve won a couple of Uni events but this is the first time I have found some form in an International sense. At the beginning of the year my goal was to win but to have done so twice in a row is just amazing. Last week I was in tears when I won but this week I am just in shock!”

A family affair, Hannah has had her Mum caddying for her the last two weeks, which she said is very important for more than just advice on her golf;

“Having Mum on the bag is great, I make most of my own decisions about what shots to play but being Type 1 Diabetic, she keeps me fed or hands me a drink when I need it, it means I can focus on the golf!”

A busy summer of golf awaits McCook as she heads back to Scotland tomorrow for a Scottish Sport press day, but with two wins now under her belt, the goals will have to be re-evaluated from here.
