On 10 March 2014, the Joint Working Group circulated the Amalgamation Consultation Proposal to all Areas, Counties and Clubs in Scotland. The Consultation Proposal and related appendices can be accessed below.
At the same time, a wide ranging consultation process was outlined extending to 31 July 2014. It stressed the importance of amalgamation to the overall health of the game, sending out the right message of having a fit for purpose governing body to lead clubs through the challenges they are facing.
The SGU, working in partnership with each Area Association, staged consultation meetings in each of the 16 Areas throughout May and June 2014 to meet directly with Clubs. The SLGA also staged meetings with each of their stakeholders – the Counties and the Clubs.
After the initial consultation concluded, the Joint Working Group analysed the feedback from a range of individuals, Clubs, Areas and Counties to consider what amendments should be made to the proposal for amalgamation.
At the conclusion of this process, the proposal for the amalgamation of the Scottish Golf Union and the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association was published on 19 December 2014.
